Jack Kleinberg Art Scholarship Fund

Jack Kleinberg - 9/13/1946 – 3/03/2022

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Jack attended the renowned Chouinard School of Art before its merger with the LA Conservatory of Music to form the California Institute of the Arts.

A graduate of the California Institute of the Arts with a degree of Fine Arts, Jack moved to New Orleans in the early 90’s where he lived and painted for over 30 years.  After Katrina he moved to Poplarville, Mississippi where he continued to paint until his passing in March of 2022.

Jack’s work, powerfully evocative and rarely viewed by the public, covers a broad arc of artistic evolution, with bold gestures and sweeps of saturated colors depicting the life and energy of New Orleans.

Now, for the first time the public will see Jack’s talents come to life. A realistic colorist, using brush strokes and bright and often improbable colors giving dynamic form to everyday New Orleans life. Not only was Jack beguiled by the essential nature and language of light and colors, but his paintings were intended to reinvigorate one’s sense of New Orleans as a flourishing and truly distinctive City ……with its dynamic street life, historic homes, and thoughtful cemeteries.

By Jack’s own words, he lived in the “throbbing, vibrant heart, close to the French Quarter so that you can hear the alcoholic beating of New Orleans, Louisiana.”

Community Visions Unlimited has been given 15 of Jack’s paintings to sell to create the “Jack Kleinberg Art Scholarship Project.”  This fund will be used to help art students get started.
